angie franklin

founder and ceo of Afro Yoga

Hey y’all! I’m the Founder and CEO of Afro Yoga, a 4x lululemon ambassador and yoga practitioner of over 20 years. I teach from a culture focused perspective, specializing in a new style of yoga I coined Kemyasa — where the traditions of African and Indian yoga meet.

In 2016 I became a yoga instructor who organically developed into a wellness entrepreneur. I’m obsessed with problem solving and innovation based on my own disheartening experiences in the wellness industry and decided to light a fire to the status quo. Over the last 7 years, I’ve grown this company as a first generation entrepreneur and am set to scale to $1 million in less than 2 years at the intersection of wellness, entrepreneurship and tech.

I’ve partnered with venture capital firms to support founder wellness and Fortune 500 companies like lululemon, the NBA, Duolingo, BlueShield, Kaiser Permanente and more to develop and facilitate wellness programming.

caroline collins

founder of Soul Care by Caro

Helping people create space to nourish their well-being from the inside out is my passion, especially Black + Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC). So many of us feel as though we don’t have the time, capacity, or permission to tend to our needs. And it’s not our fault - we’ve been hardwired to hustle.

Over my decade-long career as a public health communications strategist, I’ve helped people and populations change the way they view mental health and self-care, overcoming some of that hardwiring. And over my decade-plus long yoga journey, I’ve learned how to use yoga as a Soul Care system to overcome some of my own hardwiring (as well as the effects of unhealed trauma and professional burnout), allowing me to find ease, rest, and reclaim my right to move at a slower and sustainable pace.

about afro yoga

Afro Yoga is a wellness brand set to scale to $1 million in the next two years at the intersection of wellness, entrepreneurship and tech.

Our story begins at a yoga class in the park in 2017 where with a simple Facebook event flyer, over 60 women of color gathered to practice yoga in a space they felt welcomed, seen and celebrated. That day we knew that Afro Yoga was not just a brand, but a wellness movement — since then we’ve been on a mission is to disrupt the wellness industry status quo.

For the last 7 years we’ve built a loyal and engaged grassroots community and built strong relationships with Fortune 500 companies like the NBA, lululemon and the New York Times. We offer culture-driven yoga products and experiences, online education for wellness entrepreneurs and corporate wellness contracts serving employees and founders alike.

We’re excited to be developing tech-enabled wellness with an app set to launch in beta Q1 2024 that features over 100 videos ranging from 5-30 minutes. These videos are all led by Black and Brown instructors with classes like veterans yoga, prenatal postpartum yoga, yoga in Spanish, LGBTQIA led yoga, chair yoga, kemetic yoga, yin yoga, yoga for athletes with all classes offering closed captions for the hard of hearing.

In short, our yoga app will increase access, visibility and economic opportunities for Black and Brown yoga practitioners and professionals while providing a unique resource for corporations that will improve employee wellness, retention and DEIB efforts.
